Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Sends Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are probing a violent incident that erupted on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento while deputies were breaking up an unauthorized event of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Prior to the Shooting

Law enforcement initially responded to Howe Park shortly before 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Following that, a follow-up call was made describing an alleged brawl happening inside the park.

Aerial units conducted an aerial sweep but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, it was apparent that an enormous crowd had assembled at the park in an unauthorized manner.

The Shooting Itself

Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering those gathered to leave immediately. Around 15 minutes were allowed for individuals to vacate.

It was during this dispersal that between 20 and 25 rounds echoed through the night. The sudden gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Officers at once began searching for victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

In total, four individuals were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical teams stated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one suffered minor injuries. According to authorities, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire provided support and assisted with medical triage those who had been shot on location.

The Investigation

The center of the incident was confirmed to have unfolded along the Cottage Way corridor adjacent to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators found extra shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
